Kitchen upgrades that raise your home’s value

Modern kitchen interior

The kitchen is one of the places in our homes that we spend the most time in—one key factor as to why kitchens get damaged or worn out much faster than the rest of the house.

Because of this, many homeowners tend to put the kitchen before everything else when it comes to implementing home improvements.

In fact, according to the National Association of Realtors (NAR) 2019 Remodeling Impact Report, kitchen renovations are the third most popular type of home improvement with general kitchen upgrades coming in second place.

Kitchen renovations also help boost a home’s value. If you’re planning on selling your home in the future, this may be something you’ll want to consider. The following projects have shown to make significant returns on investment.

Repaint your cabinets and change the hardware

The humidity and grease in your kitchen can deal a lot of damage to your cabinetry. Prolong their life by giving them an extra layer of protection. You can repaint your cabinets with high-quality semi-gloss paints, which can help shield the precious wood from fumes and vapors.

To give your cabinets that extra hit of luxury, swap out ordinary hardware in favor of things like recessed ring pulls.

Other ways to elevate your space is to switch out your sink and faucet, as well as the addition of a functional stainless-steel hood over your stove.

Add a backsplash

Steam and hot grease can really do a number on your kitchen walls. Avoid the hassle of having to constantly repaint the walls near your stovetop and sink by installing a classic backsplash.

Popular backsplash options include subway and mosaic tiles, which can be assembled in a variety of exciting patterns.

Replace your countertop

Given that many of us have adopted more active roles in the kitchen since the COVID-19 pandemic started, it’s best to invest in countertops made from materials that can be easily sanitized at a moment’s notice.

Some of today’s more popular countertop materials include granite, marble, and concrete, all of which are easy to clean and aesthetically pleasing. If you want to add pops of color and texture, butcher’s blocks and stainless steel are also good materials and can be seamlessly integrated into your kitchen countertops.

Change your lighting

As with any other space, lighting can make or break your kitchen’s overall aesthetic.

To give your kitchen a more modern touch, you can add fixtures like pendant lamps above your counters. Under-cabinet lighting also helps give any kitchen a high-end look.

For more flattering light, switch out your incandescent bulbs with LED bulbs that are bright but energy-efficient.
