People always say that one of the draws of living in La Cañada is you get to send your children to top-ranking schools in the area. And this isn’t just hype. Schools in La Cañada certainly live up to their reputation.
In fact, three of the schools under La Cañada Unified School District were included in the 2018-19 Honor Roll Schools list just last year. The list, which was organized by the nonprofit Educational Results Partnership, looks at gathered data about schools’ methods of instruction, programs, available resources, and student performance.
It seems that Paradise Canyon Elementary, Palm Crest Elementary, and La Cañada High School all passed these qualifications with flying colors as they were part of the honor roll. Let’s take a closer look at these outstanding educational institutions, shall we?
- Paradise Canyon Elementary
Paradise Canyon Elementary, a K-6 school, has been serving the community since 1949. They boast a student population of over 700 students, all of whom enjoy high-quality programs in mathematics, science, world languages, technology, and more. The way of learning here is through smaller class sizes so each student gets care and specialized instruction.
- Palm Crest Elementary
Palm Crest Elementary is another K-6 school in La Cañada. It ranks as one of the best primary schools in the community. Students here get test scores in mathematics and science that are higher than the state average. Aside from the rigorous academic instruction, students here also enjoy a vibrant school life.
This school is performing so well that Palm Crest Elementary was recently recognized as a 2020 Distinguished School by the California Department of Education!
- La Cañada High School
La Cañada High School serves students from grades 7 to 12. Aside from being part of the 2018-19 Honor Roll, this school also holds the distinction of being named a four-time National Blue Ribbon School and a two-time California Distinguished School. It’s all because La Cañada High School offers a great balance between exemplary academic programs, extracurricular activities, and rich student life.
Statewide, La Cañada High School currently ranks at the 26th spot, while in the greater Los Angeles area it is ranked as the 9th best school. Test scores show that students and graduates of La Cañada High School are highly proficient in mathematics and reading, scoring higher than the state average.
